Movement is essential to development and learning. It is the basis for developing higher academic skills such as reading, writing and math. Gross motor movement is essential to developing fine motor movement. For a child with apraxia, movement is the targeted area of concern. For this reason, movement and rhythm have been incorporated into the curriculum. Dance, exercise, rhythmic activities and music occur throughout the day and are a part of the daily routine. Yoga instruction helps the children develop body awareness and control. Fine motor development is addressed in the Practical Life area of the classroom.
